What do you call a person with a rabbit on their head?

Well, this one is called "Metaphysica: Rabbit" (2007) by Chinese artist Ah Xian and it's on display with several other adorned busts at the Queensland Art Gallery. It joyously explores the nature of existence and implies something beyond the physical entity in which we exist.

And you thought the answer was Warren.

Gwen In Purgatory

Dedicated to my friend Gwen who recently became more familiar with Robina train station than she might have preferred.

It's all good!

This is the view from my bedroom window. The palm trees and the tin-and-timber house on stilts are a common sight all over Queensland.

Waiting for a ride...

As you can see, Brisbane is implementing its public bike hire scheme soon. The idea is you unlock a bike from one of these stations using your own special keycard and you can ride it to somewhere else in the city with a similar station. I'm interested to see if it will work and who will use the scheme.

The other night, workers across the city had to unceremoniously dig a whole load of these stations up because they had been cemented in the wrong way around. All good now though, I think! All we need is some bikes

Hanging for a bite to eat

This is a Rainbow Lorikeet, a chatty colourful bird found all over Brisbane. Coming from England where it seems like 95% of the birds are some shade of brown, the novelty of these birds just won't wear off. The colours are bright and strong like a kid's drawing.... and the flowers that attract them are equally flashy. This one's called a Grevillea.

Thanks to my friend Sandra for this photo which was taken recently in her garden in Grange.

Postcard from India - Skywatch

While I replenish my Brisbane photos, here's a shot of the sun going down over the Lakshadweep Sea off the south west coast of India about 3 weeks ago.  After the rain of the previous 11 days, it was a real treat to see the sun again.

For other skies around the world, visit Skywatch Friday.

Aloe Again!

After my month away it was brilliant to be greeted by blooming Aloe Veras in the garden. The last time they flowered was 3 years ago... and come to think of it, I was away on holiday then too. I wonder if I am cramping their style?

Anyway it's lovely ...if a bit of a culture shock... to be back in Brisbane. While I was away I had a couple of expressions of interest from people who have wanted to use my pictures in magazines and presentations which is a big compliment. Thanks to those concerned for emailing and asking permission.

I'm looking forward to getting back out there and taking some snaps for you (and me). After my month off I'm feeling pretty refreshed. I didn't go near a computer the whole time I was away although I must confess to taking about 1100 photos ...yikes. I've got my work cut out for me.
