Paddle's Up!
Despite the fact that I have lived in this part of the world for 11 years, I still don't know a paddle board from a surf board. I took this photo thinking "Wow - not much in the way of surf today. What's he doing??". Aaaanyway... this is a paddle board - it's bulkier than a surf board and has a non-slippy surface that you can kneel on while paddling around with a paddle.

Look. No Gears. RRrrrr.
There's a bit of a fashion for gearless bikes here in Brisbane at the moment which is odd/masochistic as there are plenty of hills in this neck of the woods.

Morning Shadows
Being from a part of the world where you learn to make the most of every drop of warm weather, I still find it a bit unnatural and wasteful to join in with the widespread glee that summer is over for another year. Having said that, autumn is a beautiful part of the year to be in Brisbane. The humidity lifts, the clouds disappear and we get glorious sunshine during the day with cool enough nights to (almost) pull a cover over you.
Today's picture was taken yesterday morning on my way to work at about 7.45. The Mount Coot-tha lookout was mobbed with cyclists who had finished their morning climb and were looking at a downhill stretch all the way home.

Morning Rower
The days are getting longer and the mornings lighter. This was taken at 5.35 this morning with the sun a few inches over the horizon. This time in two months there won't be much of an orange tinge - the sun will be much higher in the sky. Remind me again why Queensland doesn't have daylight saving??

Climbing The Cliffs at Kangaroo Point
Brisbane has some beautiful cliffs right in the heart of the city rising from the river to the streets of Kangaroo Point. According to a post in the very excellent and informative blog Your Brisbane Past and Present, they are over 220 million years old! Aside from their natural beauty which changes in the light, they are also good for climbing - if you're that way inclined.
Give me a set of steps any day.

Saluting The Sun
Loads of people turned up on Sunday morning in Orleigh Park for a marathon 108 sun salutations as part of Yoga Aid. They'd been at it for about 2 hours when I got there and they were still going strong. Not sure of the significance of 108 but pretty sure that these lot were troopers to do it all in 30 degree heat.
Later, I saluted the sun in my back garden with my feet up and an ice cold beer.
