Traffic Stopping Art (Number 61)

Having taken a three year break from this lark, there are LOADS of new traffic signal boxes all over the place that I can show you. This one is by Dominique O'Leary in Fortitude Valley.

Traffic Stopping Art (number 60)

This fabulous signal box can be found on the corner of Upper Edward Street and Astor Terrace in Spring Hill, near the Queensland Art Society building. It's by Francis Rowland Wregg whose work I have featured in the past two signal box posts. The bird design is a nod to the work of the brilliant M C Escher.

Traffic Stopping Art (number 59)

This traffic signal box sits on the corner of Milton Road and Park Avenue in Milton and depicts the pretty little McIlwraith Croquet Club just down the road. The artist is Frances Rowland Wregg, creator of the previous signal box in this series. Find out more about the painted signal box project here. Traffic Stopping Art (number 58)

I really like this newly painted box on Milton Road in Milton. The artwork is really bold and eyecatching - most people looking at them are in a car so the more bright and colourful the better. Also, the box is interesting from every angle. Two thumbs up from me! The artist is Frances Rowland Wregg and as you can see she has depicted John Milton for whom the suburb we are in is named.

It's been a while since I showed you another of our traffic signal boxes. Today's artist is Pen Donovan who has been very busy around town - she's painted 44 traffic signal boxes so far! See them here. This one is called "Footy" and as you might be able to see is controlling traffic outside the 'Gabba football/cricket ground.

This traffic signal box is by Brisbane-based artist Guido Van Helton and is called 'James Street Style'. It's on the corner of James Street and McLachlan Street in Fortitude Valley.

Traffic Stopping Art (Number 55)

It's been a long time between drinks but here is another painted traffic signal box brightening up the main shopping drag in Moorooka on the south side of town. The artwork is by Elise McKenzie and is called Cooktown Orchid - which is the floral emblem of Queensland.

It's great, this traffic signal box painting lark. Anyone of any age can submit a design. The main criteria is that you live, study or work in the municipality of the box.

This cheeky box is on the corner of Brunswick Street and Mclachlan Street. It's called "Monkey Business" and is by Guido Van Helton.

At Last! I've found it!

I really like this signal box design. It's tucked away on Waterworks Road at The Gap - not very visible from the road which is why it's called The Lost Traffic Signal Box.  The artist is John Ledingham. Traffic Stopping Art (Number 52)

It's been a while since I've posted one... but here is another one of Brisbane's painted traffic signal boxes. They adorn every corner that has traffic lights and are painted by a huge range of Brisbane residents. Anyone who lives here can apply to paint one and they are repainted every few years. Check it out here.

This one is by Alicia Lane and is called "Crows of West End" and is on the corner of Boundary and Vulture Streets in West End. She painted the previous box in this spot too.

Traffic Stopping Art (number 51)

Here we are, back again with my painted traffic box series after a lengthy haitus. It's been a while but here's one I go past a lot (usually when I am in a hurry) and I always make a mental note to get a snap of it before it gets painted over. It's some sort of amoebic mystery! Whatever it is, I'm very fond of it and if you want to go and see this signal box for your cell-f (groan), you need to head on over to the corner of Cordelia Street and Peel Street in South Brisbane.

Welcome back to our stroll around Brisbane, stopping at random painted traffic signal boxes on the way. This busy one is on the equally busy corner of Mary and Albert Streets and it's by Frida Lindstrom. For others, click on the label TSBs.

August Theme Day: Bright Colours (and Traffic Stopping Art number 49)

It's a farmer with a pizza which I think is representing the fact that we are in New Farm. I suppose they didn't have any of this here new-fangled pizza back when it was proper farm land.

This is another of Brisbane's many painted traffic signal boxes and I think suitably colourful for today's City Daily Photo monthly theme of Bright Colours.

Here we are with another one of Brisbane's painted traffic signal boxes. I've posted this one before which is scandalous seeing as there are so many more un-posted that deserve my attention... but this is from a different angle and I quite like the rest of the shot.

Welcome back to our meander through Brisbane and it's painted traffic signal boxes. We're up to 46 - wow my feet are killing me!  This one is on Adelaide Street near the junction of Albert Street and it's by artist Douglas Trudgeon.

Welcome back to the Painted Traffic Signal Box series! It's hard to keep up. There are hundreds out there and I keep seeing ones I've photographed before that have been painted over. This one is on the corner of Main Street and River Terrace in Kangaroo Point. The artist is Jesse Breckon-Thomas.

This kookaburra sits on the corner of William and Margaret streets.

Traffic Stopping Art (number 44)

This box is by Carolyn Watson and was painted in 2002. The pigs have developed a couple of snotty snouts since then which is really not too bad considering they've been propping up the bar for 8 years non stop. You'll find it on the corner of Gipps Street and Kennigo Street in the Valley.

Traffic Stopping Art (number 42)

This signal box, by Tracey Cranitch depicts Lady Bowen, wife of Queensland's first governor, Sir George Ferguson Bowen. She was very well respected for her work in charities and healthcare in the mid 19th century and was the very first Greek person in the colony of Queensland (of which there are now thousands). This box was part of the Q150 allocation, a group of signal boxes earmarked to celebrate of Queensland's 150th anniversary as an independent state from New South Wales.
