Green Machine

This car was spotted on Park Road in Milton a few days ago - maybe it's all this rain!

Thanks to Sandra and Chris for the photos.

Watch the birdie!

My extensive research (5 mins on Google) tells me that this is a Pale Headed Rosella. Please let me know if I am wrong!
This one was spotted scoffing flowers in Grange in the northern suburbs a couple of weeks ago.

Hanging for a bite to eat

This is a Rainbow Lorikeet, a chatty colourful bird found all over Brisbane. Coming from England where it seems like 95% of the birds are some shade of brown, the novelty of these birds just won't wear off. The colours are bright and strong like a kid's drawing.... and the flowers that attract them are equally flashy. This one's called a Grevillea.

Thanks to my friend Sandra for this photo which was taken recently in her garden in Grange.

What Moths Are Wearing This Season In Brisbane

This gorgeous moth was spotted by my friend Sandra in her house in Grange. I'd like a cape like that.

Don't forget to switch off for Earth Hour tonight!

Sunrise From The Sunroom

It was a source of some confusion when I arrived in "the sunshine state". Sunrooms in all the traditional Queenslander houses. Why would you want a sunroom? It's bloody boiling!

I've been convinced however that these low-ceilinged rooms surrounded by windows are great for maximising the winter sun - and very eco-friendly. Unfortunately I don't live in a Queenslander house and don't have a sunroom but my friend Sandra does - and she took this picture of the sunrise last week from the comfort of it. Not a bad view to wake up to, eh?

The Weekend Starts Here

Thanks to Sandra for this beautiful shot, taken from her back deck in Grange on the north side of Brisbane. Around this time of year the nights are balmy with minimums rarely getting below about 20 degrees celcius (68f). Sound effects to go with this picture: cicadas, crickets and frogs and the hiss of an ice cold beer opening. Smell effects: jasmine laced with BBQ. Are you there yet?
