Here we are on the corner of Adelaide and George Streets in the city. The signal box has been painted by Scott Moorhead and called "Prefection". Apparently, it's all about trying to appreciate the simple things in life in the midst of all this technology and data.

Another one from the balloon files, this one was taken during inflation in a little park in Coorparoo. If you ever get the chance to fly over a city in a hot air balloon...do it!
When I was little, cakes that looked as perfect as this were made from coloured marzipan and kept in a clear plastic box so you could admire them like a little ornament. (was that just me?) Or they were made from plastic and were a toy. Personally, I prefer the home-made, rough-around-the-edges type of cake that you don't have time to admire because you are too busy scoffing your face with it.
It is currently lashing rain in Brizzy. It's great: the local dams have had a good soaking and are I think up to about 45% full. Last year they got down to 15% and we had to limit our showers to 4 minutes. There were a lot of brown gardens and dirty cars too it was awful. So the rain here is always welcome and on a personal note my chilli plants are getting their first flowers. I should mention that while it's all about nice long showers and blooming gardens here, the same low pressure trough has caused Coff's Harbour in New South Wales, south of us, to flood doing all sorts of damage to houses and cars.
Today's painted signal box comes to you from the suburb of Hamilton which is home to Brisbane's two premier racecourses, Eagle Farm and Doomben. They are right across the road from one another as they have been since the 1930s... and there seems to be ongoing discussions about merging the two clubs, combining resources, alternating meetings etc but as far as I know they remain independent of eachother.
As far as I'm concerned, the Story Bridge is picturesque from any angle. This one, to me, is all about strength.
The idea had been bugging me. I was frequently stuck in traffic on my way home from work and as the nights got darker I was noticing the sunset in my wing mirror... coupled with the darkness that lay ahead - 2 skies for the price of 1! Each night for a week I got into my car, set my camera up and had it ready... and guess what? The bloody traffic lights were green and there were about half the cars on the road than there were the week before. I coasted home in record time and photo-less. Then there was the change in weather: we had storm clouds and rain clouds and grey evenings... then my shift at work changed so I was leaving half an hour later... anyway as you can see I finally got it out of my system!

This native Australian honeyeater is the Noisy Miner bird and can be seen all over Brisbane. For a small bird it makes a big racket. It is often seen in groups bullying bigger birds like kookaburras and hawks, trying to steal their food or just generally annoying them. The noise in question is like a high pitched "PEE-PEE-PEE-PEE!"
