Steam
Dotted around Brisbane Square at the bottom of Queen Street are some big metal balls, made from copies of World War Two steamers welded together. Collectively, the installation is known as "Steam" by Aussie artist Donna Marcus. You get people pushing them around, posing infront of them and on top of them and peering into them. At night they light up in different colours and brighten the place up quite nicely, I reckon.

I love those things. Haven't seen them at night though.
I wasn't sure about "World War Two" though, I used to wash them up after Mum cooked dinner.
Then I did a countback of years...... Thanks for that Cara!

i just read that they were originally meant to puff out steam at night, but water restrictions cut short to that - how awesome that would have been!
I agree, they do look rather good.
Myn mother was still using them in the 60s. A group of them were designed to fit snugly into a 'steamer' - a saucepan or pressure-cooker with a lid - which allowed 'the cook' to keep the vegetables separate, making serving easier (beans, carrots, peas, potatoes, cauliflower (usually over-cooked. Not unlike the steamer contraption I use today in a saucepan to keep vegetables above the water - to steam rather than boil.
