Off With His Head!

This one just makes me laugh - it's of a cameraman and a journalist taken at work a few weeks ago. The cameraman on the left is about 6' 8".

Tim Minchin and the Queensland Pops Orchestra

Here's a shot from last night's fabulous concert at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.
If you like ginger pacifist athiest comedians who express themselves through song , this is the man for you. And the orchestra were amazing too.

The Swimming Pool at GoMA

There's a swimming pool in the Gallery of Modern Art that is the strangest thing...

When you look into it, people look back at you but they never come up for air...

To get into it, you can't jump in; you have to walk down some stairs and through a corridor. When you get there, it's even more bizarre....

After being inundated in the lower floors during the floods, GoMA has re-opened and this free exhibition is called "21st Century: Art in the First Decade". It struck me that most of the exhibits turn sensible serious adults into giggling, curious kids. While I was there, a middle aged couple spent a good five minutes swiming around like goldfish while their friend took pictures from above.

Street Performer, South Bank

Despite the fire juggling, mini bike wheelies and knife juggling on a 9 foot high unicycle, the boy in the blue was a touch bored.

Aqualoop at Wet'n'Wild

The idea is you climb up to the top of the steps (which is a lot higher when you're up there) and step into a clear, upright tube. You cross your ankles, cross your arms over your chest and then... well then the floor disappears and you freefall with such velocity (up to 60km per hour) that it powers you around a loop and you get spat out the bottom. I wasn't planning on getting stuck but I came to an abrupt halt somewhere towards the end of the uphill section thanks to the pair of shorts I was wearing that were a bit too flappy I was told later. It took a second or two for me to realise what had just happened as most of my vital organs were still trying to catch up with the rest of me. Then the panic set in as I had visions of rescuers in cherry-pickers... or the next person down the tube flying feet-first into my head at full speed. I had to spend a minute or two hoisting myself uphill inside a smooth slippery tube which is hard, let me tell you. Eventually I regained momentum and plopped out the bottom where I was deafened with howls of laughter.

Again, again!

Happy Birthday, Powerhouse

This is the entrance to the Brisbane Powerhouse, a major arts venue here in Brizzy. It's housed in the shell of an old power station which was built in stages between 1928 and 1940. It has these old brick walls that are really high. This year, it is celebrating its 10th birthday. Download the program here.

Bill Bailey

Last night I went to see comedian and musician Bill Bailey on stage at the Performing Arts Centre in South Bank. It was a brilliant night and I laughed loads. At the end when everyone was filing out of the theatre and there would have been about 10% of the audience left in the auditorium, he came back on stage and gave those of us that were left our own private concert - it was excellent!
