August Theme Day - My City's Skyline
Here's the ever changing view of the city from Gladstone Road in Highgate Hill. Plenty of cranes around the monolithic "Tower of Power", 1 William Street, which is soon going to hold all of Brisbane's civil servants and is dominating the skyline at the moment.
But not for too long...the powers that be have approved this giant casino complex called Queens Wharf see the computer fly-through here. Due to start construction next year and be finished around 2022. The view from here will certainly be very different by then.
You can see other theme day posts from around the world here.

It's all downhill from here...
Cyclists regroup after the uphill slog, preparing to tear down Dornoch terrace in a peloton, the wind zipping past their Lycra-clad bodies and hairless legs. What is it with men of a certain age and lycra? Is it just Brisbane?

Early Morning, Highgate Hill
There is only a very slight shift in seasons in Brisbane but if you live here for a few years you start to recognise them. For example it's Autumn now which means that if you go for a walk after 7am you won't work up a sweat before you leave the house.

You've Been Framed
This is Peter of Nobel Framing in Highgate Hill. He's framing and mounting the five photos I'm putting into the Avid Reader Exhibition, free of charge. We probably talked about the job at hand for about 5% of the time I was at his place and then everything else under the sun and beyond for the rest of the time.
Top bloke!

Skyline Skywatch
We've been having some beautiful cold, clear mornings here recently. Perfect for a bit of sky-watching! (also perfect for staying warm in bed under the covers with your eyes well and truly closed...the lengths I go to for this blog!)

Consolation Skywatch

Wednesday was a public holiday in Brisbane metropolitain area for the "Ekka". It's an annual agricultural show and carnival that people get quite excited about.
I've got one of those silly jobs where public holidays mean nothing... so I was up really early on Wednesday while the majority of Brisbane slept in. As you can see, it wasn't a bad consolation prize. The skies are starting to lighten earlier each day and the morning air is losing its bite.
For other bloggers who have pointed their cameras skyward this week, visit Skywatch Friday.

Torbreck
This 1960s block of flats, "Torbreck", is a bit of an icon in Brisbane. It sits on top of Highgate Hill and can be seen for miles. I'm told that every apartment has an amazing view so if you know someone that can get me in to get a picture....
For anyone who was wondering, those bluey-grey panels are sun blinds - a common feature in Queensland architecture. It can be very bright in this part of the world. And I think that bit at the top is a viewing room. (Unfortunately not open to the public) .
