The Finishing Touches

When I took this photo last week, riding along in the Citycat, the sun was glaring so much that I didn't notice the figures in the picture. I'm happy they just about made it in, giving it a sense of perspective. What you are looking at is a detail from the new pedestrian Kurilpa Bridge about 2oo metres from yesterday's post. It's due to open next month linking West End with the city.

So it's not bridges per se that you are agin ... just bridges for cars etc!

This one surely gives pedestrians something to look at as they walk. I hope they are securely fixed ...

I really don't have a problem with bridges of any kind. I'm a driver and car bridges definitely have their place in Brisbane as you move out of the middle of town - but the Hale Street Link is encouraging more traffic to flow through the centre of town. The city is looking gridlock in the face and trying to build their way out of it instead of getting all the unnecessary cars out of town and revamping the public transport system. Sorry for the soapbox moment - it's my pet hate.

No no ... not a problem with soap-boxes. Our beloved mayor, Clover, has the same box and a very similar bar of soap. She is having a community meeting in a week or so to let inner-city residents have a say, too ... you will read about it on The Eye!

i was passing by the bridge the other day and had to wonder about the pyramids - are they to help construction, or are they part of the final design?

Not sure about those pyramids either, David... they look to me like they're a permanent fixture mostly because they look a bit too pretty and floaty to be construction aids. Then again, they kind of stick out a bit..
