February Theme Day: Wood

There's this beautiful old house in Milton. It's got a wood frame, wood gables, a wood balcony and these rustic looking wood shingles all over it. It stands stoically on one of the busiest intersections in Brisbane braving the weather, pollution, thundering trucks and stadium crowds who file past regularly in their thousands.

This picture is part of the City Daily Photo theme day which happens on the first of every month.

A very impressive structure. I saw one same walling here, it was from the Bank of America and I thought that there was a cement wall beneath the wood.

Bit like a thatched roof in composition, Cara. Must have involved a lot of tedious hammering to begin with! I think I would like the effect of the whole structure. Did it have a corrugated iron roof, by any chance? Now THAT would be a crowning glory.

I wonder how one would attach wooden shingles to a concrete wall. Must have had exposed studs ...

Yes Julie it DID have a corrugated iron roof! I was toying with the wide shot but it's not until you get up close that you realise it's wood.

I never knew we had shingle-clad houses in Brisbane. You learn something every day. It does look good. Nice photo

Lovely - you don't see these very often (or at all) in this country.

Shingles always astound me - that they even work. This is a beautiful image really showing us the textures and colours of this house.
