Traffic Stopping Art (number 33)

Did you pick a winner? I think mine's still running.
Yesterday was Melbourne Cup day when people all over Australia go a bit hose-racing mad and drink their weight in champagne. In Melbourne it's even a public holiday. We don't have that luxury here in Brisbane but there's still some of that holiday atmosphere going on. Eagle Farm racecourse has a big meeting and thousands take the day off to attend. Those of us who have to work still manage to watch the race, with many workplaces dishing out food, drinks and the ubiquitous sweep-stake.
This is the traffic signal box outside Doomben racecourse in Ascot - painted by Justin Mcleod.

That is one helluva leer that horse has! Maybe its pick in the sweep did better than yours.

Interesting day, isn't it? I wonder where else in the world that this happens. You can cross the Harbour Bridge between 2pm and 4pm and find there is yourself and maybe one other car.

Hi... I stumbled across your blog via someone else's.
I love the art in Brisbane... the graffiti, the random statues or installations in the city centre... It is something so unique to brisbane...
I lived in GC for a couple of years about a year ago... hoping to return there this year soon and hoping there will be lot more of such things to see in Brisbane.

if you have time, chk out my photoblog - wornboots.blogspot - shot in Bangalore, India mostly unless i'm not travelling.
