The Jac Stack's Back!

Here we are with the third of three Jacaranda-themed posts.

You are looking at "The Jacaranda Gas Chamber" by Joshua Levi currently exhibiting in his own fabulous Joshua Levi Galleries on Ipswich Road. That guy in the coffin is Brisbane's Lord Mayor Campbell Newman, who is the man ultimately responsible to the tunnel and its chimneys.

Hah! I love your title ...

There is a guy in an old-fashioned legged bath on the back of a flat-top with a hose attached from his mouth (?) to the base of the coffin ... quite complex symbolism here!!

The whole thing is bordering on gross ... and this chappie Campbell is our hightest ranking Liberal politician!

... *shaking my head in disbelief* ...

Regarding the symbolism, I haven't decided which direction the hose is going: is the man in the bath breathing in Campbell Newman's toxic fumes or is he representative of the pollution and chaos that will eventually send CN to an early (political) grave? Or something else.
The bath featured in every one of Joshua Levi's photographs in the exhibition and was actually in the gallery too. I think he must be very attached to it.

Hey Cara! the bath tub basically symbolizes personal space the man in the bath is what the shot is about. Mr Peach. a friend of mine. The hose is actually connected to the exhaust of the ute to show we are directly being effected by the tunnel and the coffin is saying he is going to kill us with the pollution.

Mr Peach was on the news protestesting against the tunnels. At the end of the interview he says " wind up your windows your about to enter the Clem Jones Gas chamber.. Both Mr Peach and myself work only 100's of meters away from the tunnels. Mr Peach Talks also about how the pollution from the tunnel can have a filteration system like japan and sweden and most other countries. but we dont have it here.

This is really frustrates me because we could be actually trying to create a city that is outstanding, cutting edge, and leading the way for a sustainable future. Instead we by BIG machines that dig holes and invest in old ideas, and concepts. Can Do Cambell Can Do alot of damage.

The Smokes stacks are an embarrassment to our beautiful city. One more final thing that a smoker suggested to me... The government has band cigarettes basicly in public now (which i think is good cause i dont smoke) but they are happy to SMOKE all over us. but more then one little cigarette instead 10 000 cars a day...

Thats all i have to say ;)
