Postcard From The Edge
Taken last night at 5.56pm from the northern end of the Story Bridge. I think I managed to get one star - just above the curved green building. I like the glittering lights from the distant cranes on the left of the shot. That's the new Mater Children's Hospital site. The white and red stripe on the water at the bottom left is a passing CityCat with it's blinking orange light.
It was the last (and best) in a series of about 40 shots that I took with the sun going down. As time passed I played around with the shutter speed and aperture. I also chose to set the white balance to cloudy for a less blue/more orange glow to the reflections in the water.
For anyone who's interested, this was shot with my Nikon D40 on a tripod
aperture: f9
ISO: 200
shutter speed: 5"
focal length: 26mm
white balance: cloudy

Noice!
You nailed it. Beautiful night shot. Being the settings geek that I am, I'm very grateful for the EXIF data, especially the WB setting. I never know what to use on night shots, so I tend to go with auto. Might try a cloudy setting next time. Aren't tripods awesome (I said "awesome" on your blog again, all those years of education seemingly now redundant).
Picture perfect! I hope to take a photo like that someday when I get good with a camera!
Simply fantastic !

I love cityscapes, so of course I love this shot. Brisbane is an interesting city. Thanks!
Beautiful colours, Brisbane has more tall buildings than I had thought!
Beautiful. Need to get out with the tripod again, haven't tried the new camera at night. If you have a cable release or remote, try using ISO 100 for the highest quality result. I always forget about changing WB. Was taking some indoor shots on the weekend, took me a while to figure out why the colours were all wrong, then I remembered to change the WB.
Thanks all!
Ann, I know what you mean but I have an entry-level SLR. The lowest ISO is 200. Bummer!
Saving for a fancy one.... one of these days...
Perfect. I love it. Thanks for the photo information.
