Swoop-Proof

This shot was taken a couple of weeks ago during the Great Brisbane Bike Ride which, as you can see, was open to all ages. Incase you were wondering, the spiky headgear is to stop protective magpies from swooping. Cyclists are particularly prone!
See a rather dashing example of an Australian magpie (if I say so myself) on a previous post here.

Great race with both the young and the some what older cyclists taking part.

Looks like a lot of fun. I've had red winged blackbirds swoop at me while running. A bit of a nuisance.

I would have thought that just the helmet would have been protective enough. I have been swooped by maggies and they are no joke. As a kid I had to walk to school with an ice-cream container on my head!

If you think the beak of your maggie back in July is powerful, check out the claws in my post today.

I'd never heard of these helmet spikes before. Magpies are nasty birds here too but I haven't been swooped by one on my bicycle. I should stick my training wheels back on because if I ever got swooped I'd probably fall off!
