March Theme Day: Glass

Pinch punch first of the month! The last day of my hand series has had to be postponed a day while I get my first-of-the-month theme day picture in. It's open to all City Daily Photo participants and this month the theme is glass.

You are looking at a section of the geodesic Tropical Dome at the Mt. Coot-tha Botanical Gardens. Strictly, it's not glass it's acrylic... but it looks like glass so I reckon that counts. Inside, the temperature and atmosphere are strictly controlled and it supports all sorts of exotic plant life including giant water-lillies.

Botanical gardens are wonderful places to relax and enjoy. Acrylic? Doesn't matter; it looks like glass!!

Very cool! In Arizona there is a huge one like this called BioSphere that people were chosen to live in for years as an experiment, totally self contained.
Here's my Theme Day post:

The enlargement shows the framing of the dome in all the different panels of glass. A really cool photo.

Sounds fabulous and great design.

Interesting pattern to cut out by the framing. I like the texture of the image on your large (enlarged) version that show up when I click the image. It resembles old film process. The small one is also good and looks so sharp in every count.

Love the shapes - quite three dimensional.

I recognised it instantly. I used to live up the hill from the Mount Cootha gardens. Nice capture of a structure I have always liked.
